Shane Jeremy James book Think, Act, Love, Lose Weight couldn’t have come at a better time. Even in an era with shows like Heavy and The Biggest Loser, chronicling the struggles of the morbidly obese, the nation's collective waist line continues to expand despite a booming 30-billion dollar diet and fitness industries. What in the hell is going on? According to James it’s all in our heads - as in we need to get our minds right before we can get our bodies right.
I couldn’t agree more. As you know, if you read my blog, I’ve been struggling with my weight since 2003 when I finally decided to do something about it. Eight years and 50 pounds later (I gained back 20 of what I loss) I am in that space where I know what to do – and the only thing standing in my way is the execution. That’s why James’ book is so important. He really drives it home that there are no magic bullets and knowing what to do and how to do it isn’t enough for permanent change. You must not only want it, but put that desire to work consistently every day through total and complete lifestyle change.
James has worked with thousands of clients, motivating them to take the weight off for good. He’s not the typical “weight loss guru” promising instantaneous results – what he is offering however is a way for people to finally step off of the emotional and physical rollercoaster of fad diets, gain and loss, guilt and transgression.
Says James:
“The only way that you can keep the weight off permanently is if you understand how to change your thinking process and then take action with new behavior,” James writes in his popular blog. “Think about this: It does not matter if you have the best exercise routine in the world and the best eating plan, if you can’t get yourself motivated.”
In other words: get your head right, fatty!
